Increasingly, getting married later and living with their parents longer have become recent trend for the last two decades. I’ll discuss two points here.
First of all, changing lifestyle of young people retards the time of getting married. Performance based system has been installed in our society for the last two decades. This system is not a matter of age and gender. As a result, it especially changed the role of young people. One of my female subordinates told me that she wants to pursuit her own fulfillment and challenge. She doesn’t want to be annoyed by house chore, allegiance to family for a while.
Secondly, people tend to live with their parents longer because of financial efficiency.
It is estimated that they need to at least \60000 for rent for 1 bed room in Tokyo. As for those who don't have any stable income, it’s beneficial to live with their parents to avoid paying additional money. I used to go to the university taking two and half hours for one way. I didn’t want to impose further financial burden on my parents.
Thirdly, privacy is well secured in modern age’s family. Before proliferation of nuclear family, sharing room was common. They couldn’t expect to have privacy. Now with changing lifestyle, they are given private room and they fell comfortable in their rooms. In this environment, it’s not necessary for them to live alone.
In conclusion, individualism and financial aspect change our lifestyles.

On the evening of February 11, a murder incidence in which three family members were killed and one seriously injured occred in Tokyo's Adachi Ward. The police suspects it a murder-suicide case. The cite was a small factory owned by Mr.sasaki,52.
The 15-year-old second son who got his both arms cut off at the wrist and the back of his head caved in, falling into a coma because of massive blood loss, told police that his father did it. A bloodstained ax was found in the factory/house.
Mr.sasaki took over his father's bussiness of repairing and selling used machines in his small factory.
Mr.sasaki got married then got two children, leading happy life. His children and wife had always helped him with his work. On Sundays they often went cycling together. All his neighbours saw them as an ideal family.
But since a couple of years ago, the surroundings of them had begun to change. The shadow of economic depression caused by inflow of cheap Chinese machines began to take them. The sales of Mr.sasaki's machines began dropping significantly, his factory/shop frequently closing its shutter.
The neighbours began to worry about how they were making a living.
About three days ago, from the inside of the factory, a loud angry voice of a man possibly Mr.sasaki's, shouting "Do you understand this situation?" was heard, which suggested they were in some kind of serious trouble, one of the neighbours says.
Mr.sasaki left a note saying "I had a duty to protect my family, but I couldn't. I feel very sorry for them..." But no actual reason to commit suicide was written in it, police says.
Living single with their parents even in old age without kids is becoming common in Japan, buuut, when you tell it to your foreign friends, it IS humiliating. Why is it so?
