Modern sense of morality in Japan

I’m afraid that morality based on Confucian tradition in Japan is disappearing. This becomes social problem. One main theme to Confucianism is relationships. I’d like to focus on relationships with two aspects.

First, I’ll talk about my private experience as micro point of view. I’d like to emphasize police officers’ moral degeneration. For example, noise pollution motorcycle gangsters generate. My condo I live in is in front of police box. Many motorcycle gangsters provoke police officers at the midnight or early morning. I craved officer to crack down them. But one police officer ignored my agony. By contrast, he told me that people lodging a complaint are only me! That was the moment that the relationship between police and citizens was broken.

Second, macro point of view. Now our society is suffering from the lack of corporate ethics. A lot of cases increase our anxiety. For example, Paloma gas leak/Fujiya expired food case/meat hope false-labeling scandal and so on. I’m afraid that the relationship between companies and customers are at stake. Obviously, this is a grave concern as lack of morality. Furthermore, this trend can lead our society to worse condition. In short, we loose economic power in international market.

In conclusion, social harmony is the great goal of Confucianism. Failing to build good relationship can damage our stable harmony.
